What is fettuccine?

Fettuccine means ‘little ribbons’ in Italian. It’s a flat and elongated pasta that’s believed to have originated in Tuscany or Rome. Similar to noodles or spaghetti, fettuccine comes in long strips which are wide, thick, and flat. Is it the same as tagliatelle? No, not exactly. While they share a lot of similarities, tagliatelle is narrower than fettuccine.

Fettuccine alternatives

If you don’t have fettuccine at home in your kitchen, that’s not a problem. Nor is it an issue if you can’t find it in your local grocery store. That’s because fettuccine shares a lot of similarities with other types of pasta that can also be used in this recipe. Let’s take a look at some of the best options.
Tagliatelle - This is the easiest fettuccine replacement as it’s the one that is most often mistaken for its much-loved counterpart. The main difference is the slight extra width in fettuccine.
Spaghetti - What’s great about spaghetti is that it’s incredibly easy to find. When it’s not already at home, you can be sure your local store has it. Its unique feature is that it’s thinner than the other recommended pasta types for this dish.
Linguine - This one is wider than spaghetti but still not as wide as fettuccine. As an elongated pasta, it makes a quick and easy fettuccine replacement like the others mentioned.
Trenette - Trenette comes from Genoa, the land of pesto sauce. No wonder this pasta type, whose name means ‘little strings’, pairs so well with our salsa verde The Tapas Sauces. While it’s thicker than spaghetti it’s still thinner than the others on our list.

Alternatives to string pasta

Even if you decide to leave the stringed pasta and use whatever alternative you’ve got in your kitchen, this recipe still goes down a treat. Whether it’s pasta shells, pasta tubes, or whatever you can get your hands on, salsa verde The Tapas Sauces will take your dish up another notch.

What is salsa verde?

Salsa Verde from The Tapas Sauces is a combo of parsley and garlic along with lemon, salt, vegetable fiber, and sunflower oil. While this sauce typically pairs with seafood and chicken, we’ve found it just as tantalizing when mixed into pasta recipes.
What’s more, if your pasta recipe also includes a seafood ingredient, there’s even more reason to mix in this delicious green sauce and enjoy the flavor combination.
